Welcome to Ms. Harrison's Upper Elementary class! In this classroom, students engage with the Montessori method of learning, which fosters creativity and critical thinking skills. Every week, Ms. Harrison designs a work plan that ensures students cover key subjects--such as reading, math, science, and social studies--each day. This plan empowers students to take ownership of their learning, allowing them to work at their own pace, collaborate with peers, and, most importantly, reflect on their progress.
At the heart of their classroom experience is the friendship and the memories they create together. Whether they're working together with colorful beads to solve complex multiplication problems, playing with slime on the playground, or seeing who can hold their handstand the longest, these moments form the foundation of their classroom dynamic.
Ms. Harrison's students have reminded me that learning is not just about acquiring knowledge and skills, but about building connections and collaborating as we grow together. I would like to thank Ms. Harrison and her class for welcoming me each week to capture their moments both in and outside the classroom. Working on this project and getting to know each student throughout the semester has allowed me to reflect on my own elementary education and become more connected to my community beyond campus.
